The standing stones of the Isle of Mull are unique to the Western Isles, and indeed the rest of Scotland, in that they are often arranged in the form of a small row of between three and five stones. Baliscate was one of the early settlements before the village of Tobermory was created in 1788 by the British Fisheries Society which purchased the estate from the Duke of Argyll and the Standing Stones can be located up the lane behind the Hebridian Lodge approximately 400m. Private residencies are located up the lane an parking is limited so best to take a stroll.
Theres 3 stones 1.8 – 2.5m high, on a north – south line, a few degrees east of north, suggesting that the stones orientate the northern sky.
